How To Start Fishing

Fishing is kinda like Gathering, but it is it's own Lifeskill. Closely related to Trading and Cooking, it's the No. 1 AFK Lifeskill, provided you've built your bag space. It's perfect for me, because I can set up during the day before work, and at night before sleep, all the while earning money while not playing actively.

You Will Need:

Fishing Rod - The only required tool when fishing. All others are optional, but are also essential. There are different types of Fishing rods for different purposes. I use 2 kinds, 1. Balenos Fishing rod for AFK fishing and Triple-Float Fishing rod for active fishing.

Body of Water - There are tons of fresh and salt water areas in BDO. You can almost fish anywhere. One way to test is when you cast your fishing rod, your chartacter will stay in "fishing" stance and wait to catch a fish. Some fresh water fishing spots only give misc materials with no fish.

Optional:

Fishing Gear - I personally just use a +3 Silver Embroidered Fisher's Clothes, +4 Loggia Accessories, a fishing bait and Crio's Fishing Chair. These items give additonal fishing exp and mastery, but you can start fishing without them.

Fishing Buff - Oasis Seafood Cron meal. With the normal +3 Fishing buff provide by guilds, and the additional fishing level from the Fisher's Clothes, you might just need the fishing buff for the + in Lifeskill exp.

Boat/Ship - In case the location you want to fish in is on an Island.

Let's Start Fishing:

Once you have decided where you want to fish, get all your fishing gear, get on your ship (if needed) and head out! For this guide, we will fish in Velia beach, 1. Everyone is familiar with Velia, 2. There is a daily fishing quest which gives a chance to get expensive accessories.

1. Go to your chosen location

2. Equip your fishing rod and other fishing gear if available.

3. Press SPACE to start fishing.

4. Wait to catch fish until you get a notice.

5. Once you get the notice, you can press SPACE again to start a mini game (enter a combination of W A S D), OR don't press SPACE and your character will automatically pull the fish out after sometime (this takes a bit longer).

You will see the fishing menu with the drop-down once you start fishing. This will let you filter which fish tier you want to keep or automatically discard. In the beginning you won't be able to auto discard anything, but the higher your fishing level, the higher the fish tier you can auto-discard (White, Green, Blue, Yellow). Only works on AFK fishing.

Last Leveling Tips:

1. Choose The Right Rod - This makes a huge difference in increasing your fishing level and earning from fishing. For example when AFK fishing, best to use Balenos Fishing rod as it gives +25% AFK Fishing Time Reduction, for active fishing, I use Triple-Float as it increases chances of catching good fish and it can be used to catch multiple fish at once, but can only be used from fishing level Skilled 5 and up.

2. Choose the Best Location - Using the same scenario from No.1, when AFK fishing, I prefer to be in Velia beach as it is close to town to easily sell fish to Imperial Fish or Trader, and because of the Fishing Daily. For active fishing I take a boat and fish Northwest of Epheria port, to trade fish in Valencia.

3. Full Fishing Buffs - Fishing buffs are optional when fishing, because it can be done with just a fishing rod. But fishing buffs are essential because they increase the rate at which you gain fishing and lifeskill exp, at the same time it give you fishing levels and speeds up fishing time.

4. Filter Accordingly - The higher your fishing level, the higher the fish tier you can discard however this will depend on what you need the fish for. If I was just AFK fishing for money, I can choose to filter all except Yellow tier fish and up. If I needed to fish for cooking, I don't filter anything to get more types of the same Green tier fish.

5. Be patient. This is probably the most important thing in this Lifeskill and almost anything in Black Desert. The fortune will not come to you overnight, it takes time to build an empire.

Aye life of a fisher. Newbies take note especially those that can't be active on game.
Many peeps who got their pens can attribute it to afk fishing, dont underestimate it. 2m,3m,10m a day seems insignificant, but when you look at it in the long run i.e. 1 year. It really adds up.
