★ Choosing The Right Class ★
Class Difficulty Guide And Recommended Classes For New Players
In black desert your experience varies from class to class, this includes how easy said classes are and how much they suit you. There are more than a few classes in bdo, while all of them aren’t really that beginner friendly. So to fix that here are some of my recommendations for new players who don’t know what to expect from a class.
[The following are purely my choice through experience and while your experience might vary]
The rating 1-5 in lights of grind and pvp
1 being easiest and 5 requiring the most knowledge of the game
Also, the one marked with “★” is beginner friendly
Valkyrie Valkyries are armed with sword, shield, and divine magic. They can also use their divine magic for healing and empowering allies. After Awakening, they can use Lancia, a weapon that is even taller than a Valkyrie and greatly boosts her great offense and defense. Grinding - 4/5 PvP - 3/5 |
|
★Warrior Warriors using the Sword and Shield as their main weapons, they are the best weapon-wielders among all the classes. After Awakening, they use two-handed Great Swords to deliver devastating blows to their enemies. Grinding - 2/5 PvP - 3/5 |
Ranger Rangers are the specialists of ranged archery attacks. After Awakening, they can wield the Kamasylven Sword to use melee type attacks. Grinding - 1/5 PvP - 4/5 |
|
★Archer The Archer, one of the sentinels of the sacred tree Kamasylve, uses his crossbow for his stylish ranged attack and skill combos. Unlike other classes, the Archer class will start off with access to both the main weapon (Crossbow) and awakening weapon (Greatbow). Grinding - 1/5 PvP - 2/5 |
|
★Musa/Maehwa Maehwas/Musas fight with oriental-style martial arts and with the blade and horn bow. After Awakening, they use the Kerispear/Crescent Blade to deliver lethal stabs. Grinding - 1/5 PvP - 3/5 |
|
Ninja/Kunoichi Ninjas/Kunoichis use swords, martial arts, and Ninjutsu. After Awakening, they can use the Sura Katana/Sah Chakram to attack their enemies before they even realize what’s hit them. Grinding - 4/5 PvP - 5/5 |
|
★Striker/Mystic Strikers are hand-to-hand combatants who attained their skills through countless street brawls and Mystics after countless years training in the East. Strikers after Awakening, they can use the Gardbrace on their both arms, and can also summon Echo Spirits to ambush their enemies from all sides. Mystics after Awakening, they can channel the aura of the Sea Dragon to deliver powerful blows with the pair of Cestus on their arms. Grinding - 2/5 PvP - 2/5 |
|
★Witch/Wizard Wizards/Witches are known for their prudence in battle. Their thorough moves will burn, freeze and shatter their enemies with the power of natural elements such as fire, ice, wind, lightning, and earth. After Awakening, They can use the Godr Sphera/Aad Sphera to gain even greater control over earth and lightning, and can summon the Earth and Lightning guardians. Grinding - 1/5 PvP - 2/5 |
★Berserker Berserkers wield monstrous double-axes as big as their own bodies. After Awakening, they can use the Iron Buster to send powerful blasts at the enemy, almost like a small portable cannon. Grinding - 2/5 PvP - 2/5 |
|
★Guardian A powerful female combatant wielding a single handed battle axe and a shield. When awakened, she wields the Jordun filled with the holy flame, dealing powerful damage with the power of the flame. Grinding - 2/5 PvP - 3/5 |
Tamer Tamers can fight enemies at any range. With the support of Heilang, the divine beast, Tamers can perform ruthless combination attacks with Heilang, or take the enemy down themselves while borrowing the divine force from the beast. After Awakening, they can use the Celestial Bo Staff to channel the divine power as the true master of Heilang. Grinding - 2/5 PvP - 3/5 |
★Lahn Lahns wield the Noble Sword and Crescent Pendulum. The Noble Sword and Crescent Pendulum are connected by a long cloth or chain, allowing Lahns to freely attack from all directions. After Awakening, they wield the Crimson Glaives that slices through any foe infront of her. Grinding - 1/5 PvP - 3/5 |
Dark Knight
Dark Knights fight with the Kriegsmesser and magic. After Awakening, they can use the Vediant to freely switch between close and ranged attacks.
Grinding - 3/5 PvP - 4/5 |
Sorceress Sorceresses can effectively control the battlefield with dark magic by using both melee and ranged attacks. After Awakening, they can use dark magic shroud themselves in darkness, and use a giant Scythe to cut down their enemies. Grinding - 2/5 PvP - 5/5 |
Shai The Shai excels at providing buffs to their party members. While they can fight off incoming threats with their giant boomerangs, they can also avoid dangerous situations through their swift movements. Their versatility allows them to protect or heal those around them. Grinding - 1/5 PvP - 4/5 |
★ Seasonal Characters and Normal Characters ★
Season characters are 3months event characters in which it’s easier to progress to end-game than normal characters. And they are on a no PVP based isolated server, while having the ability to join active PVP servers too. After 3months they become normal characters.
I recommend making a Season character if you can for progressing faster.
★ Early Game Progression ★
Now, early game your priorities are getting a stable money source and getting to level 56 to unlock awakening and most of your skills. You can see such unique skills in your class by pressing “K”. You need skill points to learn skills and you gain them as your play through the game.
For money, you need to consider life skilling or sea monster hunting. These activities can vary in difficulty from acquiring money to get starting gear to getting a decent ship. So getting to level 56 is what is easier to do.
To begin leveling do the main quests which you can see by pressing “O” upto chapter
After completing all those quests go to the new quest tab to get these quests to finish these quests. These Cliff’s weapon quests give 3 quests for 3 weapon slots. And later in the game these weapons can be enhanced to Tri to get About 300million silver each weapon.
Make sure you take 1 weapon for each slot for using them till you manager to get better gear
Doing these quests get you basic gear and money to get your grinding in different spots.
Questing will easily get you to level 50+ . But I recommend staying under level 55 to get the Cliff weapons easier.
Cliff’s Weapon Box quests for levels 55 and below
Quest |
Objective |
Mission to Mansha Forest |
Kill 150 Mansha |
Mission to Lake Kaia |
Kill 100 Catfishmen |
Mission to Hexe Sanctuary |
Kill 100 Skeletons |
When your character is 56+ have a party recommendation of 3+ players to kill bosses to get the weapons.

★ Getting To Leveling 56 ★
After that you have to consider grinding in place with exp scrolls to level up faster. This is a scroll you get once daily by pressing “Y”.
Some of the places you should be able to grind with the gear the quests give you.
Helms Post | Abandoned iron Mines | Wandering Rogue den | Bashim Base |
Grind for 4-5hrs are these places will easily get you to level 56
★ Mid Game Progression ★
After getting to level 56, it’s time for your awakening or ascension[Archer] quests. To unlock your second weapon and/or skill sets.
At level 56 now you can consider getting basic enhancing done to your weapons and armors. Otherwise you can do all your remaining quests upto Valencia II.
By now you should have these basic gears
⯈ Awakening Weapon: For Awakening weapon, You can use +10 Green awakening weapon or +7 Blue awakening weapon from the reward you get from Awakening quest. You can alternatively use the Katan awakening weapon you get from the quest “Black Spirit’s GIft IV” quest.
⯈ Main Weapon : For Main weapon, You can use any +7 main weapon, I prefer the Rosar +7 weapon. Additionally You can use Obsidian abyssal Weapon you get from completing the main quest at mediah.
⯈ Subweapon : Any +7 green sub weapon, preferably +7 offensive sub weapon, gives you more damage.
⯈ Helmet: Rugged Valley Helmet is a free helmet you get for completing mediah merchant quests.
⯈ Shoes: Valiant Katan's Boots is also a free shoes you get completing completing valencia quests
⯈ Gloves: Honorary Combatant's Gloves is another free gloves you get from valencia quests.
⯈ Armor: Roaring magical Armor is the best free armor you can get from the black spirit gift quests. These armors are all free items that you can get multiple times using multiple characters.
Having these gets you access to mid game grinding zones that can net you 20 - 50mil an hour and such places are
[These are sorted from best to worst with or without loot scroll]
Waragon | Crescent Shrine | Gahaj Bandit’s Lair | Polly’s forest | Cadry |
These places should net you some decent money per hour
★ Getting to 300 Energy ★
What is energy?
This thing here is the energy of your characters.
High amounts of energy is required for doing multiple quests and life skills
This can be done easily by getting knowledge on npc which you can check or see by pressing “H”
I recommend you follow this video and guide below by aiRstylez
★ Dailies/Weeklies ★
Your black spirit has many scroll to offer you with varying of daily or weekly
I recommend going to Recurring Quests and taking all the daily or weeklies and stacking them to do alone all together or with guildmates.
★ Life Skilling And Usage Of Multiple Characters ★
Well, at this point grinding all day won’t be an efficient option anymore and doing all the main quests got you about 100-150 contribution points which we are now going to invest in nodes and life skills.
Cooking
Farming
Alchemy
Horse-Training
Fishing
Gathering
Processing
Are all the life skills you can consider. But as of right now, as a new player the life skills that net you most passive money is Cooking and Farming.
Cooking/Farming
While a written guide is of no help on this topic.
Here is a guide to it by imPansy

Usage of Multiple Characters
Okay this might come as no surprise but using a single character for everything is a bad choice for progression.
Having 1 character for each task helps in efficiency on the long run
Grinding requires you to move across the world a lot. So having separate grinding class and life skilling class is a mandatory here.
I recommend using a Shai as your life skilling character. Its at level 1 has professional 1 rating in alchemy and processing and it is purely based around life skilling

★ Enhancing ★
Enhancing to begin with is very RNG aka Luck based. But it Makes you stronger in seconds.
You enhance a weapon through your black spirit. There are a few tiers of enhancing.
Enhancement chances in the table below are based on GREEN grade Armor.

These are the case for only your weapons and armors not your accessories.
Accessories Levels start from 16 (PRI) “I” to 20 (PEN) “V”
Armors and weapons are enhanced to level +15 with normal Black Stones. And onward from 16 (Pri) to 20 (Pen) with Concentrated Black Stones
Enhancing doesn't give a high chance of success by default and for that your need failstacks.
This here is a failstack
This increases your chance of success. But you can't always use a high failstack to succeed. So here is a chart of failstacks you need for each level.
To begin with I recommend enhancing all your armor then your weapons to 18 (TRI). Then 19 (TET) One by one.
I recommend buying Gold Grade accessories from the market. Well till then there are quests like this that give you Asula accessory. Just Grind there finish the quest and boom instant AP.
★ Getting to Level 60/61 ★
Well then to enter the endgame you now need to cross one last barrier. At level 61, you are gonna get a free Tri Gold Grade Accessory which gives more AP than you have without a doubt.
This is gonna require a lot of patience and effort so get ready. So first off you need to get the Adventure Tome:Book of Chenga and for that you need to finish this questline in the suggested tab.
This quest is very confusing so here is a guide by ShojiQ
After this you need to finish your questline all the way till Dreighan II.
“Why” you might ask. It’s because without these quests you won’t be able to talk to a lot of npc-s. And we are using side quests to level up. So finishing main quests unlocks more of those.
Here are the guide that i still follow to level my characters till date by Potion Shop
To access side quest make sure you have all quests On on your quests tab
This is OFF/ON
